COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments help you identify and manage risks from hazardous substances. Solution Host provides templates to help you build and maintain these records.

Before you search

Solution Host’s COSHH search is exact-match — meaning the search term must match the substance name precisely. A small difference in spacing or wording can return no results.

• Use the full product name exactly as it appears on the manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

• Avoid abbreviations or informal names.

• If a search returns no results, try a slight variation of the name or check the spelling on the data sheet.

Creating a COSHH assessment

1. Search for the substance using its exact product name.

2. Select the appropriate template from the results.

3. Work through each section, checking the information against the current Safety Data Sheet.

4. Add any site-specific controls or notes relevant to how your team uses the substance.

5. Once complete, click Save.

6. Click Mark Complete to finalise the assessment. This triggers review reminders to keep the record up to date.

Note: Clicking Save alone does not activate review reminders. You must click Mark Complete to enable them.

✓ Tip: Always validate the template content against the current data sheet before marking complete. Manufacturers update formulations, and your assessment should reflect the latest information.

Keeping assessments up to date

When a review reminder arrives, open the assessment, check the current data sheet, update any sections that have changed, and mark it complete again to reset the review cycle.
